In a certain street not a million miles away from the station someone is having a loft conversion done.

Nothing wrong with that.

However the builder has taken to parking his van fully on the pavement, that is all four wheels. This forces people (includes children on their way to school), to walk around it onto the road.

I have seen this more than once, and upon seeing it again today called Hertsmere Council. I asked for Planning (in relation to the building work) and after a quich chat with the operator was put through to parking.

I explained the problem and I was told that that street had parking restrictions between 2-3pm and that it could be ticketed between these times. As I thought they had mis-heard me I explained the problem again in that a van was parking not just up on the pavement, but fully, all four wheels and I thought that was an offence at all times, not just from 2 til 3pm!.

I was informed that if parking restrictions were broken during enforced hours (in this case 2-3pm) then it was a council issue, otherwise it was a police issue:#: The person I was speaking to was very defensive:#: I told them I lived in Potters Bar and was reporting a safety matter, she obviously didn't think forcing children to walk on a road was a safety issue and then I thanked her for her time and hung up.

So there you have it. Park fully on the pavement and the council don't care unless you're breaking enforced parking restrictions.

He called me from his silver car and told me he was going to Italy in broken english and showed me his passport. I was intrigued so I allowed him into my house and he showed me the jackets, I knew there was something dodgy going on so I made him leave. I then checked online and there has been a load of these situations going on around England and around the world. Knowing what I do now, I would have rang the police and kept him waiting. They usually make up a story about going to the airport, and then they tell you they have clothes that weigh too much etc...Beware!!!!

So with Boris pushing for all London main line rail to accept Oyster Pre Pay from May 2009, now is absolutly the time to lobby for rezoning Potters Bar Station into Zone 6.

But why should FCC want to do that? They must make a fortune from people travelling on the fast trains to Finsbury Park and Kings X. Lets face it...if we had to use the slow trains it'd be a pain, so the last thing we'd want is for them to move PB into Z6, but stop the fasts from calling at PB.

The case has to be made that PB is nowadays essentially in London, and that the train companies are unfairly hammering PB commuters by keeping it out of the London zones.

I'm going to email the following. 5 mins of effort now *might* mean considerable savings in the near future.

TFL: enquire@tfl.gov.uk
OYSTER: contactus@tube.tfl.gov.uk
FCC: customer.relations.fcc@firstgroup.com
GRANT SCHAPPS (Wel Hat MP): grant@shapps.com
JAMES CLAPPISON (Hertsmere MP): mark@tory-herts.org
MAYOR OF LONDON: mayor@london.gov.uk
LONDON TRAVELWATCH: enquiries@londontravelwatch.org.uk

Generally, i'm happy with the service provided by FCC. In my opinion the service IS better than when WAGN ran the line. The trains and stations are cleaner, and the puncuality is as good. OK, so the price has gone up, but that would have happened anyway.

However, £6 for an off peak return to Finsbury Park is way too much, especially as you then have to pay another £2 or so on Oyster Pre Pay to continue into town. If PB was in Zone 6, it'd mean £3.50 off peak single to town.

Well the council certainly don't help with the parking

And to be honest some of the shopkeepers don't help themselves neither. I won't name names, nor hint at the type of business as Zero won't like it (and rightly so as they run the site).

Used one shop for several years, then we hit a problem with one item. The rudeness from the Owner was simply unbelievable, so much so that we've never set foot inside their shop again, and never will

Used to be involved the fundraising arm of my childrens school. Have you ever tried walking from Mutton Lane down to Dreams, and back again on the other side of the road asking all the shops to display a simple A4 poster advertising an event like a Christmas or Summer School Fayre? (So it was a community event) For those that did say yes and put the poster up (and it was way below 50%) it was interesting to see how many of the A4 posters remained after 1-2 days. Sorry Guys but if you want the local community to support you then you also have to support them.

Noticed a while back that the two speed camera sites on Mutton Lane had sprouted an additional pole each. Tonight noticed the pair at Woxham Gardens (195 and 196 have had CCTV cameras fitted to the top of the poles pointing at the speed strips.

There is nothing to say what these additional cameras are for on the speed/safety camera website to suggest what they are.

Anyone know what they're for? Are they making sure someone doesn't vandalise the existing GATSOs or are they to ensure all sites can capture speeders on a 24 hour basis without the need for film?
