Considering moving to the town, either Potter's Bar, or Hatfield, or somewhere in between (Brookman's Park or Welham Green)? Won't have a car for a year or so, so access to other places won't be easy, and I'm wondering what it's like to live in any of these places and which is best? I love sports, yoga, the arts.....haven't heard great things about the area and was wondering if anybody from Potter's Bar could shed some light on what living in the town is like? I'm a student but don't appreciate the normal student getting drunk thing - I actually like to be involved in the community, volunteering, clubs, etc - so if anybody thinks that there's nothing to do because there's no clubs or great pubs to go, then it's not really the idea of the area I'm after. Which of the places I mentioned might actually hold better prospects - I haven't heard anything all the great about the area so far (depressingly).
Thanks if you can help, it's really appreciated.

Personally, I would avoid Brookman's Park if I didn't have a car! I would consider Welwyn Garden City because I have always thought of that as a good place without a car. If you are going to the University of Herts, there are v good bus links from there also.

Well as far as I am concerned, Potters Bar is a great location to live in terms of easily getting into London whilst living pretty close to the countryside.
For sports, there is the Furzefield Center and a lot of places do Yoga classes, for example the Gym behind Mount Grace School.
You could always check out the Wyllyotts Center for Arts related activities, its not exactly a cultural center but its a start!!!

You could take a look at
http://www.pottersbar.org/Societies.htm, if you havnt already seen it. It is a list of Clubs + Societies in PB.

Oh dear, you must have been talking to the wrong people! Depending on what you want, I am sure PB + area can be a great place to live. Admittedly there isnt much to do in town but there is lots to do nearby...
well there's lot's of big Range Rovers in these parts
