Tesco have admitted the Potters Bar store was supplied with contaminated fuel and we now know recent cars with catalytic converters are affected by the fuel mixture supplied.

I filled up on 26th Feb then went on holiday for two weeks and only then saw the news of the fuel contamination. I got back and the car does seem fine but I just wondered if anyone here has been affected or knows anyone who has been affected. The help from Tesco has been a bit lukewarm - I have to take the car to a garage who will sample the fuel and send it away. If the fuel isn't contaminated, they will pay for the test, and if it is, they will pay for the test, fuel and any parts damaged by the faulty fuel.

I expected a little more - perhaps a tie-up with a recovery organisation to sample the fuel at your convenience. But still, seeing as everything seems to have died down, I wonder if the actual impact was less than the news made out initially.
Yes, I think the news go over the top slightly on the story - I don't know anyone who was affected.

Tesco's reaction was very lukewarm as you said. First they said that there wasn't a problem with their fuel, then I think they would only refund the cost of fuel. Once the bad news got out they said they would pay for any reasonable repair costs.
As a follow-up, I tried to get a sample taken with little joy. One garage said it would take the sample for a charge, I would have to supply the container and find a lab to test the sample!

Rang Tescos back and now they deny asking for samples from people (which is odd, I was told this twice by the helpline earlier). They now say if your car is affected you will need to prove the petrol is at fault and produce a receipt to show you had bought petrol at the affected station during the affected time.

It's all a bit disappointing, but from what they say (not that they're experts) if I haven't already had problems then I probably haven't been affected.

I won't be filling up there again. The butcher on Darkes Lane has had my meat business getting on for a year now and no going back to Tesco for meat, just a shame the rest of the shopping comes from there Sad
Obviously once the bad press died down they don't care as much about anyone else.

I wish I could give up supermarkets too - its a shame there are no grocery stores on Darkes Lane any more. I used to like Sainsbury's but now after the changes it's just like Tesco but smaller.
I recall a greengrocers I think the bookies replaced it along the start of Darkes Lane, at that time I was guilty of everything from the supermarkets. Used Sainsbury mainly when Tesco was where the bed shop now is, but swapped to Tesco when they opened the new store.

Do everything I can to support the local shops now. Elaines had something my girlfriend wanted the other day she found after checking out Oxford Street. It's all there on your doorstep when you look Happy
