Once again we are treated to hysterical outbursts from the Media, as a slight bout of perfectly normal winter weather arrives.

The use of centimetres instead of inches allows their breathless and doom-laden tones to utter larger numbers, as 7cm sounds so much more impressive than the pathetic 3 inches it really is (wait until they realise that 7cm is actuall 70 whole mm!)

Meanwhile, we watch, bemused, whilst England grinds to a media-driven halt. Even the local Primary Schools are shut!! Why?

Was 8.5cm in my road!:-)

It only happens (usually) only once a year so why not let the kids have a day off. Because we don't have the infrastructure in place to cope with this once a year event (and it isn't worth putting it in place because it happens once a year or less), so I think there would have been road chaos in getting kids to school.

You also have to consider the teachers who sometimes have to come in from a long way away early in the morning when itwas still snowing and they wouldn't have known when the snow was going to stop or how bad it would end up.
So the teachers stay at home because they don't know how bad it will be, or when the snow will stop. **sigh** It's snow. Main roads are perfectable passable. Imagine the reaction I would get if I called my boss and told him that I wasn't coming in as it was snowing.

Anyway. Back to the story. Snow falls. Thaws.

So what happens on Friday? Yep. School is closed again. Why?

They are now but they weren't on early Thursday morning.

But if you were delayed, because of the bad snow, it would be ok, but it could end up that local children are at the school at 8:45 and teachers who live futher away don't get there until later - who is going to be responsible for and supervise those 100 or so children?

Well this I'm not so sure about - maybe they wanted a longer holiday?
