Was reading http://www.pottersbar.org/carnival/index.htm, when I started to wonder if it was right that the main Carnival beneficiary would be Christmas Lights for the High Street.

To be honest its none of my business, but it concerns me that money which could go towards a 'better' cause is going on lights which waste electricity, produce unnecessary carbon emissions, and, if we are serious, don't actually enhance the environment that much come December - there are already lights on Darkes Lane for that.
Agree with you but we really should stay away from the carbon emissions rubbish
Why do you think that we should stay away from carbon emissions when the common consensus is that they are causing climate change?
Really? Says who? Oh yes, the Governments of the world who then slap some more tax on Travel.

Before you believe the rubbish that is put out you might want to start here. When done there have a read here, with the shortened version here and some key figures here

Is the climate changing? Yes - it does all the time.

Is it our fault? Dunno

Is it due to global warming? No idea, and no one else knows for sure either. Climate change is such a huge issue, with so many variables and so little data (100 or so years out of about 500million isn't a good indication) that no one could possibly know. We can make predictions but that will be based on models based on the data we have (which isn't much).

Lots of people talk of carbon emissions but when asked what percentage humans, and their machinery, are actually responsible for they don't know. If interested I'll dig out some stats
I think I heard that only 1% of Carbon emissions is caused by humans, but I also think we should be more aware and take more care of the environment than we do now - not that arbitrary and excessive taxing is the answer.

On the topic of Christmas Lights, I am not 100% agreed with them getting most of the funding but most of us wanted them at the time and they are nice - besides it is not up to me anyway!
