MAN THREATENED WITH GUN DURING ROBBERY
By Corporate Communication Dept

A 17 YEAR old man was threatened with a gun during a street robbery in Potters Bar over the weekend.

The incident occurred between 10pm and 10.20pm on Monday, April 17, in the High Street, Potters Bar.

The victim had been walking along the High Street alone when he was approached at the junction with The Walk by three offenders.

One offender attempted to grab a mobile phone from the victim, who lives in Potters Bar.

The victim shrugged him off but then the second offender produced what looked like a gun from the waistband of his trousers and pointed it at the victim.

The first suspect then hit the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground where all three offenders kicked and punched him. The victim still refused to relinquish his phone.

All three suspects then ran off empty-handed. The victim got up and ran down The Walk and an old style green Mondeo with a white oval sticker on the passenger door side, pulled up alongside him containing the three offenders. The victim then jumped over a fence into the cricket ground and the vehicle drove off.

The victim sustained cuts to his finger, ear and shin.

The first offender is described as a slim black male, aged around 18-19 and around 5ft 11ins. He was wearing a black hoodie, black baseball cap and black jeans with black trainers. He had distinctive thin sideburns down to his jawline.

The second man was a slim, clean shaven white male also aged 18-19. He was wearing a red baseball cap with ‘No Fear’ and an ‘eyes’ logo, black Nike tracksuit top and bottoms and black trainers.

The third suspect was a white male of medium build, aged around 18-19, around 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins. He was wearing a black jacket.

PC Andrew Boyer said: “If you witnessed this offence or have any information, please ring 01727 796056 and quote reference J3/06/673. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

20 YEAR OLD SUSTAINED FRACTURED SKULL
By Corporate Communication Dept

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 20 year old man sustained a fractured skull after being hit over the head during a robbery.

The victim, who lives in Potters Bar, had spent Saturday night, April 15, in a local pub and had visited the Istanbul Kebab House before walking home down the High Street and into Barnet Road.

At around 1.10am Sunday morning, he was walking on the pavement in Barnet Road opposite Travis Perkins when he was approached by a male offender who stated an intention to rob him before hitting him in the face.

There was a group of people walking slightly behind in the same direction who are believed to have been with the offender.

The victim has attempted to run away but was chased by the offender to the junction of Barnet Road and Hill Rise. He was then struck from behind on the back of the head with an unknown weapon and was knocked to the floor. His black Samsung D500 mobile phone was stolen.

The victim has managed to get home and his parents have taken him to hospital where it was found he had sustained a fractured skull that resulted in a blood clot to the brain. He had also sustained lacerations to his head that required eleven stitches, facial injuries and other cuts and bruises to his body. He was treated in hospital but is now at home recovering.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 16-17 years old, around 5ft 10ins tall, with blonde hair about half an inch in length all over and a little hooped earring in one ear.

He was thin, pale skinned and wearing a dark grey or black jacket that came down to his knees.

Detective Sergeant Ian Butler said: “This was a violent and cowardly attack on a young man who was just making his way home after a night out.

“The injuries he has sustained are extremely serious indeed and we are lucky that we are not looking at an even more serious charge than grievous bodily harm.

“We understand that the group of people with the offender may have tried to stop him assaulting the victim and we would appeal to them to come forward and eliminate themselves from this investigation.

“If you can help with any information, then call 01707 638229 and quote reference J3/06/667. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Following a sexual assault on an 8 year old in Hatfield, police have issued this advice:-
Quote:We would also ask parents to give their children the following advice when out on their own:

• If you are not with a parent, teacher, or other adult who is looking after you, don't talk to strangers and never go off with anyone you do not know, no matter how friendly they appear to be.

• If you are approached, walk away to somewhere you know is safe, or a busy place, and tell someone you know and trust what has happened.

• If you are going out alone or with friends always tell someone responsible for you where you are going and when you expect to be back.

• Don’t accept sweets, ice cream or anything else from anyone without asking someone your parent or guardian first. Just say ‘no’ and run away.

• If a grown-up asks for their help in looking after a puppy or minding a car, don’t. It’s not rude, it’s just being safe

• If you are scared or troubled by anything that happens to them let them know they can ring the police on 999 for free and someone will come and help.

• Adults should also be aware that approaches to children may make them feel uneasy.”

• Avoid alleyways, subways and other poorly-lit routes.
