Does anyone know what is happening now with Honeywell house? I think its called Honeywell House, its those building next to the URC Church on Darkes Lane. All that seems to have happened is that they cut down that tree (I was really cross about that Angry ) And then put black and orange fencing around it (already graphited by some kids, no prizes for guessing which Angry )
There is an application for a care home for 93 people.
I have heard a rather worrying rumour- that Haringay Council, owners of Honeywood House, are applying or have applied for planning permission to have a centre for relocated "mental" patient there.

I find this shocking, if it is true. I'm not at all sure of the nature of the facility, but, we have school children walking from the train station and Potters Bar to Mount Grace, it must be dangerous.

Does anyone know if this is true :o?

(Sorry if anyone is offended by the phrasing but I'm not sure exactly what to call it.)
Well I for one am very offended – and not just by the phrasing. The vast majority of the mentally ill and handicapped have a lot more reason to fear the general public than the public have to fear them. If anyone is in danger from school children passing by it would be the residents and not the children.

Before you put your narrow minded bigotry on show you should try helping out at ‘mental’ home for a while.
Well im sorry, but the way it was reported to me was that it was more for those who have been decided by those in authority posed a threat to the public. I'm not sure if any of this is true, this may just be a rumour, but I was looking for a general opinion of what was going on in my town.

I know exactly why you may have felt my post was offensive, I must admit I didn't make myself clear. Of course I understand that the vast-majority have a lot more reason to fear the general public etc. but I also know that the vast majority of school children pose no threat to anyone.

I do not believe my post was of "narrow minded bigotry," as I am not rejecting everyone elses views, I am just putting across mine, as you have put across yours.
Ok sorry. You are probably not bigoted, but with out saying that the rumour was for mentally ill/disturbed people deemed to be “a threat to the public” your post came across as stigmatising the mentally ill or handicapped. I would fully agree that the Honeywood House is not suitable for such a purpose should it be proposed. Looking at the Haringay Council web site however, I could find no mention of this plan in its minutes.
I've heard that Honey Wood House is to become a Drug-rehabilitation Centre? Has anyone else heard this?

Honeywood House, 261 Darkes Lane (TP/2005/1099) Change of use from nursing home to Drug Rehabilitation Centre
Received this through the letterbox today from a resident of Little Heath:-

Quote:DRUG ADDICTS REHABILITATION CENTRE IN HONEYWOOD HOUSE
The owners of Honeywood House, Darkes Lane, would like to turn the site into a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts. They have not publicised this widely.

They have submitted a planning application for this scheme. Hertsmere Borough Council is due to decide whether or not it should proceed on the 3rd November.

We believe this will be detrimental for our local area because:

 • Crime levels will probably increase - particularly muggings and burglary

 • We will feel less safe wlaking on our streets

 • Property values will probably decrease

 • Drugs will be more easily avaliable - especially to students at Mount Grace that walk past this site everyday on the way to school.

If you want to protest these plans there are only a couple days in which you can do so.

Email your opinions to chrisanya.martin@hertsmere.gov.uk
She will be happy to forward them to the council planning committee. Alternatively you can telephone her on 0208 207 2277

Angry How much is known or publicised about the drugs problem in Potters Bar? You can buy you supply in and around the Park off the High Street, we have had a gun/knife affray in Stanhope Gate, drug related. The lighting in Darks Lane is being upgraded because of fears, well founded if you walk down the road when dark. Ok, maybe the rehabilitation will work for some but the centre would give a focus for the pushers who the local police have enough of a problem trying to contain. Recognise Potters Bar? if not wake up.
Anyone have any update on this?

What were the results of the application?
In terms of your concerns, please note that this application is being considered by the Potters Bar Planning Committee next Thursday evening, and the planning officers have recommended that this application be refused.

I hope this is of assistance.

Regards

Chrisanya
Does anyone know the outcome?
